Coconut Water Matcha in Downtown Dubai: the lighter way to drink matcha
Matcha with coconut water skips the milk for something lighter, brighter and naturally sweet. At MRJADE on Emaar Boulevard, it is our Cloud Matcha: organic Japanese matcha from Kyoto with organic coconut water, topped with whipped cream and real coconut flakes.

What is coconut water matcha?
Coconut water matcha is matcha green tea mixed with coconut water instead of milk. It tastes lighter and more refreshing than a matcha latte, with coconut’s gentle natural sweetness softening matcha’s grassy notes. In Downtown Dubai, MRJADE serves it as Cloud Matcha: organic Japanese matcha from Kyoto and organic coconut water, finished with whipped cream and coconut flakes.
It is the drink to order when a creamy latte feels too heavy, especially in Dubai heat.

Matcha and coconut water are a natural pair.
Matcha is shade-grown green tea ground into a fine powder, so you drink the whole leaf (see what is matcha? and what matcha is made of). On its own it is grassy and slightly bitter. Milk usually rounds that off. Coconut water does the same job differently: it adds a soft, natural sweetness and a clean, almost mineral finish that lets the matcha stay bright.
Natural sweetness
Coconut water is lightly sweet on its own, so it balances matcha’s bitterness without needing much added sugar.
A lighter body
Without milk, the drink is thinner and more thirst-quenching. It drinks more like an iced tea than a latte.
Matcha stays vivid
Milk mutes matcha’s colour and flavour. Coconut water keeps the green bright and the tea notes clear.
Built for heat
Cold, light and naturally refreshing, it suits most of the Dubai year better than a heavy milk drink.
Coconut water matcha vs matcha latte.
Both start with the same organic Japanese matcha from Kyoto. The base changes everything else. Here is how Cloud Matcha compares with the classic Iced Matcha Latte and the coconut-milk MRJADE Matcha Latte.
| Cloud Matcha | Iced Matcha Latte | MRJADE Matcha Latte | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Base | Organic coconut water | Cold milk (dairy or plant) | Coconut milk |
| Texture | Light, with a creamy cloud on top | Smooth and creamy | Creamy and rich |
| Flavour | Fresh, tropical, matcha-bright | Earthy, clean, matcha-forward | Gently nutty and smooth |
| Feels like | A refreshing iced tea with a treat on top | A classic café latte | A softer, dairy-free latte |
| Best for | Heat, hydration, a lighter cup | Daily matcha drinkers | Coconut lovers who want creaminess |
Coconut water and coconut milk are different: coconut water is the clear liquid inside young coconuts; coconut milk is made from the grated flesh and is much richer.
From cloud to coconut, sip by sip.
Cloud Matcha is built in layers too. The whipped cream and coconut flakes sit on top, so the first sips are soft and creamy before the cool matcha and coconut water come through. Stir it in for a lightly creamy drink, or keep the cloud on top and sip underneath it.
| Part of the drink | What you taste |
|---|---|
| The cloud | Smooth whipped cream with the toasty, nutty bite of real coconut flakes |
| The matcha | Fresh, grassy and umami, without the heaviness of milk |
| The coconut water | Soft natural sweetness and a clean, tropical finish |
| Stirred together | Lightly creamy, refreshing and balanced |
Why the matcha matters more without milk.
Milk hides a lot. Take it away and the matcha has nowhere to hide, so a dull or bitter powder shows straight away. That is why Cloud Matcha uses the same organic Japanese matcha from Kyoto as every MRJADE matcha drink. Learn how grades differ in ceremonial vs culinary matcha.
Caffeine
All of it comes from the matcha; coconut water adds none. A matcha drink is generally lower in caffeine than most espresso drinks.
Steadier energy
Matcha contains L-theanine, linked with calm focus, so many people find it smoother than coffee. See matcha vs coffee.
Colour check
Good matcha stays vivid green in coconut water. Yellow or olive tones point to an older or lower-grade powder.
Any time of day
Moderate caffeine makes it an easy afternoon or early-evening drink.
What coconut water adds, and what it doesn’t.
Coconut water is popular for good reason, but it is worth being clear about what it does. It is naturally lighter than milk and contains electrolytes, most notably potassium. Matcha brings antioxidants such as the catechin EGCG, plus L-theanine. Together they make a drink that feels fresh rather than heavy. For the full picture, read is matcha healthy? and matcha tea benefits.
Lighter than a latte
Coconut water is typically lower in calories and fat than whole milk, so the base itself is lighter.
Naturally hydrating
It is mostly water with natural electrolytes, which is why people reach for it after the gym or in the heat.
Mind the topping
The whipped cream and coconut flakes add richness and calories. They are part of the treat; ask the barista if you want it lighter.
Dairy note
The base contains no milk, but whipped cream is usually dairy. If you avoid dairy, ask the barista before ordering.
How to make coconut water matcha.
It is one of the easiest matcha drinks to make. Start with good powder (you can take MRJADE matcha powder home in 30 g, 50 g or 100 g tins) and see how to use matcha powder for whisking technique.
| Step | What to do |
|---|---|
| 1. Sift | Sift 1–2 teaspoons of matcha into a bowl to remove clumps. |
| 2. Whisk | Add 50–60 ml of water at about 75–80°C and whisk in a quick zig-zag until smooth and frothy. |
| 3. Ice | Fill a tall glass with ice and pour in 180–200 ml of chilled, unsweetened coconut water. |
| 4. Pour | Pour the matcha slowly over the coconut water and stir. |
| 5. Top (optional) | Finish with a spoon of whipped cream and toasted coconut flakes for the “cloud” version. |
Use pure coconut water
Choose 100% coconut water with no added sugar or flavourings, so the matcha stays the star.
Keep it cold
Chill the coconut water first. Warm coconut water tastes flat and melts the ice too fast.
Never boiling water
Water above about 80°C scorches matcha and turns it bitter. Let the kettle cool for a few minutes.
Shake it
No whisk? Shake the matcha and water in a sealed jar for 20 seconds. It works surprisingly well.
