Where people buy matcha in Dubai.

Matcha has gone mainstream in the UAE, so you will find it almost everywhere. The difference is in what you can check before you pay. New to matcha? Start with what is matcha? and what matcha is made of.

Where to buy matcha powder in Dubai
WhereProsWatch out for
Specialty matcha caféTaste it first; staff can advise; fresher stockLimited range; usually not the cheapest
Tea shopsKnowledgeable staff; several originsPrices and freshness vary
SupermarketsConvenient and easy to findBlends with sugar or milk powder; unclear origin; long shelf time
Online marketplacesHuge choice, deliveryHard to judge quality; heat during shipping and storage

Whichever you choose, the checklist below matters more than where you buy.

Before you pay

Six checks for any matcha tin.

Labels on matcha are not tightly regulated, so look past the marketing and check these instead. For how quality labels like “ceremonial” and “culinary” are used, see ceremonial vs culinary matcha.

1. A named origin

A specific country and region, such as Kyoto, Japan, beats a vague “premium green tea”. Kyoto is one of Japan’s most famous tea-growing areas.

2. 100% matcha

The ingredients list should say matcha and nothing else: no sugar, milk powder, flavouring or fillers.

3. Vivid green colour

Fresh, good matcha is bright green. Yellow, brown or dull olive powder is older or lower quality.

4. Fine texture

It should feel silky between your fingers and whisk smoothly without gritty clumps.

5. Light-proof, sealed packaging

A resealable tin protects against air, light and humidity. Clear bags are a red flag.

6. A sensible size

Buy what you will finish while it is fresh. A huge bag that goes stale is not a bargain.

How much do you need?

Pick the right tin size.

A typical matcha latte uses about one level teaspoon, roughly 2 g of powder. Here is roughly how far each MR JADE tin goes. These are estimates; heaped spoons or stronger drinks use more.

Servings per tin (about 2 g per latte)
TinApprox. lattesBest for
30 gAbout 15Trying matcha at home, or a gift
50 gAbout 25A few matchas a week
100 gAbout 50Daily matcha drinkers

Freshness matters more than price per gram. Choose a size you will use within a couple of months of opening.

Dubai heat

How to store matcha in a hot climate.

Matcha is delicate. Air, heat, light and humidity all dull its colour and flavour, and Dubai has plenty of all four. Unopened, MR JADE matcha keeps for 12 months. Once opened, reseal the tin tightly after every use and keep it somewhere cool, dry and dark, away from the stove and direct sun. Use it steadily rather than saving it for later.

Keep it sealed

Close the lid firmly straight after scooping. Air is matcha’s biggest enemy.

Keep it dark

A cupboard away from windows protects the colour and flavour.

Keep it cool

Avoid shelves near the oven, kettle or a sunny window. Car glove boxes are a no.

Use a dry spoon

A damp spoon brings in moisture, which causes clumps and spoils the powder.

At home

Make your first latte with your new tin.

This is how we recommend preparing MR JADE matcha at home. For more ideas, read how to use matcha powder and how to make a matcha latte.

StepWhat to do
1. SiftSift about 1 teaspoon of matcha into a bowl to break up clumps.
2. Add waterPour in 60–80 ml of water at about 75–80°C. Boiling water makes matcha taste bitter.
3. WhiskWhisk in a quick zig-zag until smooth and frothy.
4. Hot latteTop with steamed milk.
5. Iced lattePour over cold milk and ice.
Value, not just price

Why good matcha costs more.

Matcha is one of the more expensive teas because of how it is made: the tea plants are shaded before harvest, the leaves are steamed, dried and de-veined, then stone-ground into an ultra-fine powder, a slow process. Cheap matcha usually cuts corners somewhere along that chain. For MR JADE tin prices and availability, message us on WhatsApp or ask at the café.

Shading

Shading the plants boosts chlorophyll and L-theanine, giving the green colour and smooth taste.

Grinding

Fine grinding is slow. It is what makes matcha whisk smoothly instead of feeling gritty.

Freshness

Good matcha is packed to protect it from air and light, which costs more than a plastic bag.

Cost per cup

At about 2 g per latte, even a premium tin works out far cheaper than buying a café matcha every day.
